Twitter replaces bird logo with ‘X’ symbol

Twitter has changed its ubiquitous bird logo to an ‘X’ symbol.

Twitter-owner Elon Musk first announced the change over the weekend, with the social media platform’s blue bird icon expected to eventually be phased out completely.

The move follows the renaming of Twitter, Inc to X Corp in March after Musk acquired Twitter for around $44 billion late last year and more recently outlined his ambitions for Twitter to become an “everything app”.

While Musk initially said that the new ‘X’ logo would be live on the site by Monday 24 July, a subsequent tweet from Musk on Sunday said "interim X logo goes live later today”.

However, the new logo did not come into force until Monday.

According to NBC News, Musk told an unknown user during a Twitter Spaces live audio chat "yeah, we’re cutting the Twitter logo off the building with blow torches”.

Twitter chief executive Linda Yaccarino, who was appointed to the role in May, posted a lengthy twitter thread about what the new logo would mean.

“There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation,” she said. “X will be the platform that can deliver, well...everything.”

She continued: “X is the future state of unlimited interactivity. Centred in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
