Google Cloud and Pearson have announced a multi year strategic collaboration to enhance AI capabilities for students, with a focus on K12 education, the companies said on Thursday.
K12 education refers to the publicly supported school system that runs from kindergarten through to 12th grade, typically covering students aged 5 to 18.
Pearson provides assessments and curriculum aligned content for K12 education, including state specific programmes, clinical assessments, and virtual schools in the US, along with internationally recognised qualifications such as GCSEs and A levels.
The partnership will combine Pearson’s expertise in K12 learning with AI technologies from Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, including Gemini. The initiative aims to deliver more engaging learning experiences for students by integrating Pearson’s AI products with Google Cloud’s AI content generation tools.
Additionally, Pearson and Google Cloud will work to improve data driven insights for teachers. Educators will be able to use platforms such as BigQuery, Google Cloud’s data analytics tool, to track student progress and tailor learning approaches.
The collaboration reflects the growing role of AI and cloud technology in reshaping industries and redefining workforce skills, the companies noted.
Omar Abbosh, chief executive at Pearson, highlighted AI’s potential to transform K12 education by moving beyond a one size fits all approach. "By combining Pearson’s deep learning expertise with Google’s technology and AI capabilities, we will deliver a more personalised experience for students and equip K12 teachers with tools that help them focus on what matters most: sparking curiosity, developing critical thinking, and fostering a lifelong love of learning," he said.
Tara Brady, president, Google Cloud EMEA, said AI and advanced agentic AI capabilities will unlock "unprecedented potential" in education through personalisation. "Using Google Cloud’s advanced AI models, students will receive tailored support, while teachers gain intelligent tools and actionable insights, allowing them to dedicate more time to inspiring curiosity and preparing students for the future," she added.
