Spotify is reportedly planning to launch a recruitment drive to boost sales across Europe, Australia, and Canada.
According to a report by Reuters, the music streaming service will hire hundreds of staff as it plans to drive more revenue from advertisements targeted at customers that do not use the monthly paid subscription service.
“We are increasing our ads business marketing workforce by over 70 per cent in Europe, Australia and Canada ... and that's off a pretty sizable base," Lee Brown, Spotify's head of advertising business, told the news agency in an interview. "We're investing in our advertising business.
“As far as long-term strategy, I think gone are the days of advertising being less than 10 per cent of our overall revenue."
Brown added that the company has hired an ad industry executive with 25 years of international experience to lead international sales.
Of its 365 million monthly active users, 210 million are ad-supported, bringing in about 12 per cent of its total revenue.
