Number of mobile gamers in the UK ‘increases by 4m’

The UK’s mobile gaming base has grown by at least four million since the start of the pandemic, according to official figures.

Analysis by video games developer ONE Shogun of data provided by Ofcom, shows that the number of British working-age adult gamers grew from 7.3 million adults in 2019 to 12.48 million during the height of the pandemic and lockdown.

This number settled down to 11.8 million last year.

“Our research shows that mobile gaming is an extremely strong position and still has plenty of room to grow as infrastructure and technology improves,” said Benny Tan, founder and chief executive of ONE Shogun. “As a video games developer, we are excited by the growth in mobile gaming and are seeking to further popularise it with our unique blend of free-to-play and play-to-earn gaming.”
