53 per cent of middle-market companies in the UK say making effective use of technology to meet business needs is their most significant challenge over the next 12 months, according to new research.
A report from Daisy Corporate Services, which surveyed senior employees at 165 UK mid-market companies across the private and public sectors, revealed that 47 per cent or respondents believe improving digital skills is a challenge.
“Technology undoubtedly played an important role in helping many organisations negotiate the pandemic,” said Lyndsey Charlton, chief operating officer, Daisy Corporate Services. “However, the research reveals there is a danger that some have tried to run before they can walk, which in turn has highlighted a skills gap.”
Cybersecurity was flagged as another challenging area.
More than a third of those surveyed said the increase in cybercrime presents a challenge over the next year, while a further 50 per cent said that protection against cybercrime and data theft will be a technology investment priority.
