Ecommpay launches Apple Pay QR Code payments

Ecommpay has introduced Apple Pay functionality via QR code payments on its merchant platform, making it one of the first global providers to offer the service.

The move allows the payment firm and global aquirer’s customers to complete their purchases using Apple Pay from any device including MacOS, Linux or Windows.

Apple Pay traditionally only works on Safari and Apple devices but thanks to QR integration, customers can now pay with Apple Pay on Windows laptops, Android devices, or any browser.

To use the service, customers can scan a QR code to complete their purchase via Apple Pay.

Merchants that use Ecommpay's payment page won’t need any additional development or integration, as the new service is enabled by default.

“Integrating Apple Pay QR into the Ecommpay checkout path is opening payment capabilities to the entire digital landscape to deliver more convenience for Apple Pay users,” commented Arturs Zaremba, head of internal payment solutions product stream at Ecommpay.

Citing StatCounter’s data, the company added that, as 70 per cent of global users browse on non-Apple devices, the feature aims to help merchants capture more transactions that would otherwise be lost.

Zarimba also stressed that eliminating device-based friction at checkout and providing familiar and trusted payment methods aims to help reduce cart abandonment.

“As one of the first major PSPs to integrate Apple Pay QR functionality, we are putting our merchant clients at the forefront of payment innovation and giving them a significant competitive advantage in conversion optimisation,” he added.

With standard Apple Pay, each transaction will require authentication via Face ID, Touch ID or passcode to ensure the protection of personal data.

“Customers can checkout from any device or browser without sharing sensitive data, as this is all saved and processed through the Wallet app and Apple Pay servers,” Zaremba said.
