The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has warned the public of potential scams during the period of national mourning following the death of the Queen.
The organisation, which is a part of GCHQ, said that during Her Majesty's Lying-in-State and State Funeral there may be an increase in phishing emails and other scams.
Phishing is when criminals use scam emails, text messages or phone calls to trick their victims.
“As with all major events, criminals may seek to exploit the death of Her Majesty the Queen for their own gain,” said the NCSC in a statement.
The government agency said that while it has not yet seen extensive evidence of heightened scams, the public should be aware it is a possibility.
It has called on the public to be attentive to emails, text messages, and other communications concerning the death of the Queen and arrangements for her funeral, reminding people that they do not need a ticket or to pay to attend the Lying-in-State.
