BT appoints new CEO

BT has appointed Allison Kirkby as its new chief executive.

Since early 2020, Kirkby has served as president and chief executive of Sweden’s Telia Company – a leading digital communications and telecommunications firm serving 25 million customers across the Nordic and Baltic regions.

“The board is delighted to have appointed Allison as our new chief executive,” said BT Group chairman Adam Crozier. “She is a proven leader, with deep sector experience and a history of having transformed businesses.”

Having served as a board member at BT for the past four years, Kirkby will take the reins of the telecoms giant from Philip Jansen, assuming the chief executive position from January 2024.

BT said Jansen would be on hand to support the transition until March 2024 when he will retire.

Commenting on her appointment, Kirkby said: “Our products and services have never been more important to how our customers live and work, and thanks to the significant investment BT is putting into digital infrastructure and in the modernisation of its services, I see us playing an even more important role going forward.”
