Amazon UK employees walk out over pay

Amazon employees based at the company's warehouse in Tilbury have gone on strike over its latest pay offer.

On Wednesday night and throughout Thursday, Amazon workers went on strike after the e-commerce giant offered them a 35p pay rise, said the GMB Union.

Employees at the Essex site have said they want a £2 an hour pay rise to “better match the demands of the role” and cope with the cost-of-living crisis.

“Amazon is one of the most profitable companies on the planet,” said Steve Garelick, GMB regional organiser. “With household costs spiralling, the least they can do is offer decent pay.”

He added: “Amazon continues to reject working with trade unions to deliver better working conditions and fair pay. Their repeated use of short-term contracts is designed to undermine worker’s rights."

National Technology News has approached Amazon for comment.
