Amazon to roll out first European Rivian vans in Germany

Amazon will deploy its first European vans from electric vehicle maker Rivian in the coming weeks.

The company said on Tuesday that it plans to roll out 300 electric vans in Germany – specifically in the cities of Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf – as the first European deployment of a 100,000-vehicle order it made in 2019.

Rivian, which counts Amazon as its largest shareholder, will use a different design than its typical US vans, with the vehicles made with a shorter and thinner footprint to better fit narrower European cities.

Amazon began rolling out Rivian vans in the US in 2022, and currently has more than 3,000 vans delivering packages in over 500 US cities. It aims to have 100,000 Rivian EVs globally by 2030 as part of its fleet.

Amazon has committed more than €1 billion to electrifying its fleet in Europe, with €400 million alone dedicated to Germany.

Amazon has committed more than 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) to electrifying its fleet in Europe, with 400 million euros of that allocated to Germany.

The online retailer began rolling out Rivian vans in the United States last year and now has more than 3,000 vans delivering packages in over 500 U.S. cities and regions. It aims to have 100,000 Rivian vehicles in its fleet globally by 2030.
