Amazon has announced that it will be closing all of its Amazon 4-star, Books, and Pop Up stores in the UK and US.
The company said that it want to focus more on its Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, Amazon Go, and Amazon Style stores, as well as its ‘Just Walk Out Technology’.
“We remain committed to building great, long-term physical retail experiences and technologies, and we’re working closely with our affected employees to help them find new roles within Amazon,” said an Amazon spokesperson.
Amazon will be shutting down its 4-star stores in the UK just months after they were launched.
4-star stores stock books, games, and toys that have been rated four stars or above by consumers.
The retail giant opened the first of these shops in UK at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent last October.
In November 2021, it opened a new 5,000 sq ft store at Westfield White City, London.
Yesterday Amazon opened a new cashierless store in Southwark, south London.
The store is the retail giant’s 16th checkout-free store launched in the UK, and the first launched in 2022.
