Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Zeekr has launched a battery which it claims can charge at the fastest rate in the world.
The upgraded EV batteries can charge from ten per cent to 80 per cent capacity in around ten and a half minutes using the company’s fast charging stations.
Zeekr added that its tests have shown that even in cold weather conditions the battery performs well, charging from 10 per cent to 80 per cent of its capacity in under 30 minutes at temperatures as low as minus ten degrees centigrade.
The company says its new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is faster than existing nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries.
Zeekr’s 007 sedan model, launching later this week, will be the first EV to use the technology.
Zeekr said it has opened more than 500 ultra-fast charging stations in China with over 2,700 charging piles, all of which can support 800V charging.
The company plans to expand the network to 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations in 2024 and will be operating over 10,000 ultra-fast charging piles by 2026.
