Twitch admits to huge data leak

Amazon-owned video live streaming service Twitch has confirmed that it was hit by a significant data breach.

The company said that the data was exposed to the internet due to an error in a Twitch server configuration change that was accessed by a hacker.

“We can confirm a breach has taken place,” the business told users in a Tweet. “Our teams are working with urgency to understand the extent of this.”

In a statement on its blog, the tech platform added that it had no reason to believe that login details had been released.

It also assured users that because it does not store credit card numbers no details were exposed.

On Thursday, the business announced that in an act of caution it had reset all stream keys which users now need to access.
