A fast internet connection is one of the top factors for people buying a new home, according to new research.

A survey of 294 estate agents across the UK found that speeds of 300Mbps are being sought by 34 per cent of buyers, the BBC reported.

The study also found that according to 33 per cent of the estate agents surveyed, a speedy internet connection can add £5,000 to the sale price of a home.

A further 20 per cent of respondents said that broadband quality was the most important factor for home buyers.

"In many cases, customers feel that good internet is a 'must have'," James Hummerstone-Pope, from Purple Bricks, told the news broadcaster. "And poor wi-fi and a bad mobile signal can be a deal breaker.

"Fibre broadband definitely makes properties more appealing.

"And people will sometimes walk away from a property if they feel the broadband and phone signals aren't good enough."
