Shopify rolls out new shipping platform to connect merchants to couriers

Shopify has partnered with shipping tech firm Shipster to role out a new platform that connects its UK and European merchant customers to 100 couriers.

The integration aims to simplify shipping for merchants by automating the order to dispatch process; creating shipments and courier bookings; and generating tracking information and shipping and customs documentation.

Shopify's 4.5 million brand and retail customers will also have access to a new pick-and-pack function via the new platform integration which replicates the basic functionality of a warehouse management system (WMS) to allow scan to dispatch.

Commenting on the launch, chief commercial officer of Shipster Damian Donnelly said that the integration would enable everything from custom shipping rules to automatic document generation, adding that the move would help merchants manage their fulfilment with greater precision.

In April, Shopify partnered with B2B payments platform Melio to launch a new service for US merchant customers.

The platform is an accounts payable service which aims to give merchants flexibility in managing expenses and vendors.

Merchants can pay bills via their preferred method and choose how the vendor receives the payment.
