Rolls Royce partners Iotics for digital twins

Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems business unit has partnered with digital solutions provider Iotics to drive development of digital twins for its in-field assets.

It will use the technology to tap into more than 200 data sources and broker interactions in order to create digital twins and receive real-time event data across customer, supplier and partner boundaries.

The digital twins project and signing of an ongoing agreement marks the latest phase in Iotic’s partnership with Rolls-Royce, which began in 2018. Since then, the company provided Power Systems with a range of digital tools, including the Go!Manage customer service tool, with the result being a single source of truth for asset information.

The latest phase will begin with the rollout of Iotics technology to Rolls Royce's extensive rail ecosystem, with physical products and assets having their own digital twins that securely capture, share and exchange data and controls across their lifecycle.

The application of Rolls-Royce’s digital twins strategy, enabled by Iotics’ technology will drive operational efficiencies, including increased service life, proactive maintenance, enhanced performance and responsive service provision; reducing environmental impact.

Chief IT digital officer of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, Jürgen Winterholler, said: “This technology is helping us realise our vision of placing our customers at the heart of everything we do, exploiting digital twin technology to deliver the best service and to enable our customers’ businesses."

The partnership between Iotics and Rolls-Royce Power Systems follows the announcement in November 2019 of a £6.5 million Iotics investment by European investors Talis Capital, IQ Capital and Breed Reply.
