Musk ‘giving serious thought’ to creating a social network

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said he is “giving serious thought” to the idea of creating a social network in a recent Tweet.

The exec’s statement came in reply to a Twitter user called Pranay Pathole who asked if Musk would consider “building a new social media platform” which would consist of “an open-source algorithm, one where free speech and adhering to free speech is given top priority, one where propaganda is very minimal.”

The tweet came after Musk criticised Twitter in poll on Tuesday, which said: "Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?".

Musk said that the “consequences of this poll will be important” and told users to “vote carefully”.

The news comes after European lawmakers gave the green-light for new EU rules that will limit the market power of large online platforms like Facebook and Google at the end of last week.
