Google offers employees free electric scooters

Google is set to offer its employees free electric scooters to tempt them back into the office, according to sources reported by The Verge.

The BigTech’s new program, called “Ride Scott”, will allow employees to cover the full cost of Model One scooters produced by manufacturer Unagi.

The Oakland, California-based manufacturer, which raised $10 million in venture capital over the past year, offers scooters via a subscription model as an alternative to outright ownership.

The scooters have a maximum speed of 20mph and a range of 15.5 miles and usually cost around $40 a month.

Employees will need to use the scooters at least nine times a month to be eligible, according to The Verge’s sources, although it won’t track these.

The new scheme is set to be able available to employees in its Seattle, Kirkland, Irvine, Sunnyvale, Playa Vista, Austin, and New York City offices.
