EU Commission bans TikTok on work devices

The EU Commission has banned the TikTok app on both corporate and personal devices over cybersecurity concerns.

The Commission said that the measure protects against potential exploitation in cyber attacks, while the security developments of other social media platforms will be kept under review.

The policy is in line with the Commission’s internal rules on the use of mobile devices and the Commission said it advises staff to apply best practices when using social media platforms and to remain aware of cyber security issues.

In a statement, the EU Commission said: “The Commission is committed to ensuring that its staff is well protected against increasing cyber threats and incidents. It is, therefore, our duty to respond as early as possible to potential cyber alerts.”

National Technology News has reached out to TikTok for comment.

TikTok recently overtook Facebook and Instagram to become the UK’s ‘most-shopped’ social channel. A study by the Retail Technology Show which surveyed over 1,000 UK shoppers found that the average shopper made 10 purchases per year on TikTok.
