Amazon launches new service for building generative AI platforms

Amazon is launching a new service designed for building and scaling generative AI platforms like ChatGPT.

These applications will be able to generate text, images, audio, and synthetic data in response to prompts.

Amazon said that its new service, called Amazon Bedrock, will give people and companies “easy access” to foundation models (FMs) – or “ultra-large” machine learning models that generative AI uses – like AI21, Anthropic, and Stability AI, as well as FMs developed by Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The move comes as tech giants around the world introduce new chatbots to rival ChatGPT, which has made waves since launching in 2022.

Chinese technology company Alibaba recently announced the launch of a new language AI model called Tongyi Oiawen which it plans to roll out across its various business applications, including e-commerce and entertainment.

Google unveiled a similar chatbot called Bard earlier this year, based on the Language Model for Diagloue Applications (LaMDA) that it launched two years ago.

In March, Microsoft introduced an AI tool designed to help people write and edit, create PowerPoint presentations, and identify trends in Excel spreadsheets.

“Applications like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion have captured everyone’s attention and imagination, and all that excitement is for good reason,” said Amazon. “Generative AI is poised to have a profound impact across industries, from health care and life sciences, media and entertainment, education, financial services, and more."

The company claims that Amazon Bedrock is the easiest way to develop generative AI applications with FMs.
