AI course enrolments at UK universities increased by 453 per cent in 2022/2023 compared to 2017/2018, according to research from Currys.
A recent study by the tech retailer explored university admissions data to understand how the advancement of AI has impacted course uptakes in the UK.
While more men have enrolled in these courses, there was a 521 per cent hike in the number of women taking up AI courses in 2022/2023 compared to five years ago.
Currys said that higher AI enrolments also reflect that AI courses are now more accessible.
Five years ago only 29 universities out of 291 analysed had enrolments into an AI course.
However, last year there were 84 universities offering the same course, nearly three times as many as in 2018.
The retailer also surveyed 1000 students and recent graduates to understand their relationship with AI.
More than three in 10 students said that the prospect of AI taking over has influenced their chosen career path, while over 60 per cent said that they believe AI has improved their chances of succeeding in their chosen career.
According to the data, The University of Hull tops the list for enrolments, with 690 students choosing an AI course.
The University of Edinburgh came in second place with 405 enrolments, while the University of Bradford came in third place with 325.
