Zoom requires employees to work in office

Employees at video conferencing company Zoom have been ordered back to work, according to reports from Business Insider.

The company is asking that those who live within a 50-mile radius must work in the office at least two days a week.

"We believe that a structured hybrid approach – meaning employees that live near an office need to be onsite two days a week to interact with their teams – is most effective for Zoom," a spokesperson told Business Insider. "As a company, we are in a better position to use our own technologies, continue to innovate, and support our global customers."

Zoom previously stated that less than two per cent of its employees would be required to work from an office.

A survey commissioned by Zoom found that almost half of its workers expected flexible working and 70 per cent said they would consider leaving their job for a more flexible employer.

National Technology News has reached out to Zoom for comment.

In February this year Zoom laid off around 1,300 staff, which is about 15 per cent of its workforce.

In a letter to employees, Zoom’s chief executive Eric Yuan said that while people and businesses had relied on the company during the pandemic, the uncertainty of the global economy and its effect on users meant that the company had to make changes.
