Samsung chooses Texas for new $17bn chip plant

Samsung has announced that it will build its new $17 billion chip plant in Texas, USA.

In March, documents filed with Texas state officials revealed that the multinational electronics business was looking at sites in Arizona, New York and, Texas for a new chip plant.

The new site will manufacture advanced chips for a number of devices and functions, including 5G and AI.

According to a report by Reuters, the plant would generate 2,000 high-tech jobs during construction.

Production is expected to start in the second half of 2024.

The news agency said that the company chose Texas based on a number of factors, such as infrastructure stability, government support, and proximity to one of its existing warehouses.
