PlayStation network ‘fully recovered’ after glitch

PlayStation has apologised on X after an operational issue disrupted its services on Friday night, triggering criticism from its customers online.

The home video game console specialist posted on X: “Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.”

PlayStation did not disclose the cause of the outage, but gamers reported both online and offline issues, including a problem related to licencing verification of offline single-player games.

The company’s decision to not tell its customers the reason behind the glitch comes after Garmin users complained about a lack of clarity when its watches stopped working last month.

Users around the world said that updates from the business were not explanatory enough after their devices froze.

PlayStation’s issue affected the play of several games including Fortnite, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and Marvel Rivals.

The BBC reported complaints from customers accusing the company of leaving them unable to play games they have previously purchased in an offline mode, describing the situation as “beyond frustrating”.

DownDetector, an online platform that provides users with real-time information about the status of various websites and services, said the issue started before midnight on Friday evening.

To make up for the inconvenience, the gaming giant said that all PlayStation Plus members would automatically receive an additional five days of service.
