Netto launches real-time receipts in Regensburg store

Discount supermarket chain Netto has launched a new system which allows shoppers to pick products and walk out without having to stop at a checkout.

The technology has been launched in partnership with AI computer vision company Trigo and is currently available in Netto’s 800m2 store in Regensburg, Germany.

Under the new system, shoppers can review their receipts, approve and pay before leaving the store via two fast exit terminals. Payment can be made by card or Netto’s app, which can automatically redeem coupons and archive the paperless receipt.

Netto said the real-time receipt capability will increase customer confidence and comply with retail regulations where it is a legal requirement to provide a receipt while the shopper is in the store.

Commenting on the news Christina Stylianou, head of corporate communications at Netto, said: “Having already blazed a trail two years ago with our Trigo-powered hybrid checkout-free grocery store in Munich, Netto is proud to demonstrate its pioneering approach once again as the first retailer to enable real-time receipt autonomous shopping. We are delighted to continue our partnership with Trigo.”

Earlier this week, Aldi rolled out contactless payment at its checkout-free store in London. The move means that customers at the Greenwich concept store will no longer have to register via the Shop&Go app on their phones.
