NCSC inducts five new companies into startup programme

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and startup support company Plexal have announced the five new startups set to enrol in the NCSC For Startups programme.

The programme will last for 12 weeks and has to date helped 60 companies raise a collective total of £512 million, the NCSC said.

New entrants to the programme will include MemCrypt, which aims to prevent and reduce the impact of ransomware attacks by supporting the recovery of encrypted data and removing the need to pay any ransom, and Coc00n, which provides a suite of cyber security protection tools that ‘wrap around’ the mobile devices of high-risk and high-profile individuals.

Saj Huq, chief customer officer and head of innovation at Plexal noted that startup economy is “thriving” but that being an entrepreneur can often feel like a “lonely job”.

“With NCSC for Startups, we’re giving startups unparalleled access to experts from within the government as well as industry to shape how cyber products are developed – ensuring they’re purpose-built to solve the challenges we face.”
