Meta rolls out broadcast channels on Facebook

Meta has announced it is rolling out public broadcast channels on Facebook and Messenger.

The company said this this will allow brands, creators and public figures to engage more deeply with their communities and get instant feedback on content.

Facebook added that admins running Pages will be able to use voice notes, messages and videos to connect with their followers through the broadcast channels.

While the social media giant plans to launch the feature in the coming weeks, some broadcast channels are already available, including those from Bollywood actor Hritik Roshan and streaming company Netflix.

Broadcast channels will be subject to Facebook’s community standards and content will be removed if it does not comply with these standards, said Meta.

“Broadcast channels are a place for followers to feel even more connected and dive deeper on the things that matter most to them,” the company added. “Anyone on Facebook can join these broadcast channels to stay up to date on the latest from their favourite Pages.”

Earlier this month, reports suggested that Meta was exploring plans to introduce ad-free subscription plans on Facebook and Instagram if users did not agree to let the company use their data to provide personalised ads.
