Meta is launching new educational features for its virtual reality (VR) headsets aimed at those over the age of 13.
The company said that it has rolled out a range of new apps and features for its Quest headsets to aid learning and the application of new skills, adding that it sees the potential for immersive technology to be adapted in educational settings on a wider scale.
Teachers, administrators and trainers will be able to manage multiple Quest devices simultaneously without the need for each device to be updated and prepared individually.
Meta said that education and training providers represent a “considerable” market for technology products, adding that there are a number of developers building apps aimed at the sector.
Meta launched the latest version of its VR headset in October last year, describing it as the “world’s first” mass- market mixed reality headset.
News of the headset followed Meta announcing $7.7 billion losses in the half year period of 2023 at its VR arm Reality Labs and $5.7 billion losses for the same period in 2022.
Its latest move comes after the company consulted with educators, researchers and third-party developers working in the education industry across the world.
The company added that it will announce the product’s name and more features in the coming months, making it available in Quest for business-supported markets.
