Ikea launches design tool on OpenAI GPT store

Ikea has launched an AI-powered home design tool on the OpenAI GPT store to enable users to plan and design their space.

Ikea AI assistant gives users personalised furniture and decor suggestions based on factors such as room dimensions, personal style, budget and other requirements. The new tool will also allow users to get tips from furnishing experts.

The Swedish homeware retailer says the move marks a significant step in “democratising planning services”.

The Ikea AI Assistant is currently available for GPT Plus users in the US market, with the retailer planning to launch the tool in additional markets over the coming year.

“We are taking a pragmatic, execution-focused approach, learning by doing and capitalising on our early efforts of a Responsible AI framework,” said Francesco Marzoni, chief data and analytics officer at Ikea. “We activated a broad ecosystem of partners to bring to life several experiments, so that we can take part in the AI evolution as we shape our company strategy.’’

Last year, Ikea unveiled three new smart sensors for home monitoring and control, including for leak detection and unexpected home intrusions.

The smart sensors deliver real-time notifications whenever activity is detected, allowing users to stay informed and connected to their home, whether they’re there or not.
