IT directors bank on boost to budgets in 2021

More than three in five IT directors (62 per cent) believe their employer’s IT budget will increase for 2021, according to research commissioned by DSA Connect, the IT asset disposal company.

The findings -based on interviews with 50 UK IT directors - showed nearly half (48 per cent) cited the need to invest in more cloud technology as a key reason for greater IT spending.

This is closely followed by 45 per cent who believe additional funds will be needed to provide greater IT support to staff working from home.

A further 7 per cent said greater spending will be required as their firms have been hit by more cyber attacks during COVID-19 and they therefore needed better cyber security.

Just 12 per cent of IT directors interviewed said they expect their budgets to fall next year, with the majority blaming a fall in revenue/profits.

The research also found 72 per cent are “increasingly concerned” about the potential legal issues of not disposing of IT hardware and data properly.

As a result of this, about 60 per cent expect their firms to spend more money on data erasure and the disposal of hardware in 2021.
