Google begins free AI module rollout in the UK

Google has expanded its suite of digital training programmes with the addition of new free AI training modules for “everyone in the UK”.

Google said its 10 new “easy-to-follow” modules are replete with practical advice and tips centred on essential AI skills, with two available at launch and the additional eight to be added over the coming weeks.

Grow Your Productivity with AI is a module the tech giant describes as an introduction to the smartest ways AI tools can save you time.

The module will cover base level aspects of AI including what AI is, how AI already helps out in everyday products, what Large Language Models can do, and how to be “much more productive” with AI.

The second launch module is centred on machine learning. Stating that this module is designed for small and medium-size businesses, Google said it teaches the potential of machine learning to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and drive growth.

Debbie Weinstein, vice president of Google and managing director of Google UK & Ireland, said she was proud to see the reaction among the 85 learners who were the first to complete the training at a Google Digital Garage event hosted by Ruth Porat, SVP and CFO Google and Alphabet.

“We’re excited to release the next eight modules in the coming weeks, covering topics like how to use data, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and leadership in a digital world – skills and expertise needed to run an AI-enabled business,” she said.

Google, along with other significant companies in the AI space including ChatGPT and Microsoft, recently announced the enactment of a Frontier Model Forum for AI development.
