Etihad partners for blockchain distribution

Etihad Airways has partnered with Winding Tree to explore using blockchain to distribute products and services without the need for third parties.

The United Arab Emirates’ national carrier is one of several airlines and hotels - including Air Canada, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa, Swissport and citizenM hotels - that have joined with the Swiss open-source travel platform to bypass intermediaries using the distributed ledger technology.

Currently, global distribution systems such as Amadeus and Sabre employ real-time inventory technology to compile data on flights and rooms for travel agents and travel booking websites.

Winding Tree’s platform allows airlines and hotels to publish available inventory to those customers directly.
