Estée Lauder hit by cyber attack

Estée Lauder, which owns several beauty brands including Tom Ford and Mac Cosmetics, has been hit by an ongoing cyber security incident.

In a statement, the company confirmed that an unauthorised third party had gained access to its systems. On learning about the incident, Estée Lauder took down some of its systems and began an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts.

The company said it believes some data has been stolen from its system and is currently trying to work out the size and scope of the incident.

Estée Lauder said it was coordinating with the relevant law enforcement authorities.

The beauty firm added that it expects the attack to disrupt parts of its business operations.

It said it is currently focusing on restoring impacted systems and services.

Estée Lauder did not name the hackers responsible for the attack.

“During this period, we thank our employees for their resiliency. Together, we remain focused on our business, consumers and other stakeholders,” Estée Lauder said.

National Technology News has reached out the company for further comment.

A number of British firms including Boots and the BBC were hit by a cyber attack last month. The hack was reportedly carried out by a Russian-speaking criminal gang and exploited a previously unknown weakness in software called MOVEit, used by payroll provider Zellis.
