The Chinese ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) has launched a new plan to increase data security in the country’s industrial sector by the end of 2026.
MIIT said that the new scheme would help it to effectively contain “major risks”, at a time where Beijing and Washington frequently accuse the other of cyberattacks and industrial espionage.
In a post on MIIT’s website, the government body said: "In response to frequent risk scenarios such as ransomware attacks, vulnerability backdoors, illegal operations by personnel, and uncontrolled remote operation and maintenance, we will strengthen risk self-examination and self-correction, and adopt precise management and protective measures."
The protective measures must be applied to over 45,000 companies in the country’s industrial sector by the end of 2026, with the plan also including aims to complete 30,000 data security training sessions and the creation of 5,000 data security ‘talents’ by the same time.
