Amazon launches new GenAI assistant

Amazon is the latest BigTech firm to launch a generative AI (GenAI) powered chatbot.

Amazon Q, the company's new GenAI assistant for businesses, was announced at an event hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) this week.

AWS chief executive Adam Selipsky said that the new assistant would enable employees to hold conversations, solve problems, and generate content.

He added that users of Amazon Q can also gain insights and “act on them” by tapping into corporate information repositories, code, data, and enterprise systems.

The move comes after recent reports suggested hat Amazon is investing in and training large language models (LLMs) to compete against Open AI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.

People familiar with the matter told the Reuters that the AI model, dubbed “Olympus”, has two trillion parameters which would make it one of the largest LLMs being trained. In contrast, ChatGPT has around one trillion parameters, the news agency estimates.

Amazon has also recently announced that it rolling out GenAI tools across its selling process.

In September, the business said it was using the technology help sellers write engaging product listings and help shoppers find what they are looking for.

Additionally, the e-commerce giant has launched an AI tool to improve customer reviews on its website and speed up decision-making for customers.
