UK employees ‘lose over three weeks’ looking for IT support

Brits are losing up to two and a half hours every week looking for support on how to use software applications, according to new research.

The study commissioned by AppLearn and conducted by YouGov, which surveyed over 2,000 employees, found that 39 per cent of employees who use business applications daily spend up to 30 minutes a day looking for help. This adds up to over three working weeks a year.

The data revealed that employees who use business applications daily are spending up to six hours a day - 76 per cent - using software, such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Salesforce, and Workday, with 22 per cent spending more than 6 hours a day.

“These figures show the shocking hidden costs associated with spending more of the working day online,” said Andrew Avanessian, chief executive, AppLearn. “The way employees and organisations have adapted and accelerated their digital transformation journeys over the last year has been incredible.”

Avanessian added: “However, by plugging the gap with shorter term solutions, the focus on the employee experience has been lost.”
