Tesla Model 3 on sale in UK by mid-2019

Tesla’s Model 3 electric car will be available in the UK from 2019, Elon Musk said yesterday.

The firm’s controversial chief executive made the surprise announcement in a series of Tweets yesterday, which confirmed that UK consumers can expect that the Model 3 - the US company’s most affordable model - will be available “around mid 2019” in Australia and the UK.

The planned mass market version of Model 3 which will cost $35,000 before tax incentives when it rolls off the production line next year.

Last week Tesla announced that a new mid-range battery version will be available for $45,000 before adding $1,000 to the price just days after it was launched.

The company posted strong net profits of $311.5 million on Wednesday, marking the first time in two years the company had made it into the black.

The results came in defiance of market expectations after Musk found himself the subject of legal action from US regulators, following him tweeting plans to take the company private.
