OpenAI launches GPT store

OpenAI, the company behind the large language model (LLM) ChatGPT, has launched a store where paid ChatGPT users can buy and sell chatbots for specific tasks.

Users who build LLM tools, known as generative pre-trained transformers or GPTs, can introduce them in the store for sale and will have the opportunity to monetise them. The company also plans to highlight useful GPT tools within the store every week.

OpenAI said in a blogpost that anyone can build GPTs and no knowledge of coding is required. GPTs have to meet policy guidelines and will be reviewed to ensure they meet safety standards.

The company added that more than three million custom versions of ChatGPT have already been created. OpenAI also said it plans to highlight useful GPT tools within the store every week.

Models already developed span a number of tools, including those designed to help people with tasks such as learning how to code, finding books to read and designing presentations.

Earlier this week the European Commission warned that Microsoft’s extensive backing of ChatGPT company OpenAI may be subject to EU antitrust rules.

In a statement, which calls for contributions on competition in virtual worlds and generative AI, the European Commission said that it “is checking whether Microsoft's investment in OpenAI might be reviewable under the EU Merger Regulation”.
