OW Smell Digital raises £1m for smell tech

UK start-up OW Smell Digital, which develops smell-based technology for the metaverse, has raised £1 million.

OW said its digital smell technology ‘will transform an ecosystem dominated by sound and vision’ and that its hardware and software ‘can identify smells and their unique perceptual effects’.

The round was led by UK fund management firm Parkwalk Advisors.

OW was founded by Emanuela Maggioni and Marianna Obrist as spin-out of University of Sussex and UCL.

The firm said the capital will be used to make new hires and further its software and hardware development.

OW said its technology has been used for a variety of different use-cases, including both artistic VR projects and scientific research.
