Nissan ‘not in autonomous vehicle talks’ with Apple

Nissan Motor has said it is not in negotiations with Apple to collaborate on an autonomous car project, following earlier reports that Apple had approached the Japanese car maker.

According to Reuters, the news comes after negotiations between Apple and Hyundai Motor Group collapsed, due to issues the South Korean automaker had about being a contract manufacturer.

Nissan stocks traded 3.7 per cent lower in early Monday trading on the Nikkei 225, compared to a rise of 1.4 per cent for the index.

In December last year, it was reported that Apple plans to launch a self-driving passenger car that could include its own battery technology by 2024.

A Nissan spokesperson quoted by Reuters said: “We are not in talks with Apple.”

They added: “However, Nissan is always open to exploring collaborations and partnerships to accelerate industry transformation.”

No Apple spokespeople were available to comment on the news.
