The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), part of the Ministry of Defence, has launched a competition to fund five projects aimed at reducing cyber risk.
Up to £880,000 is available for project that will help quantify cyber risk, enhance digital resilience and enable defence to be secure by default. DASA said that additional funding may also be available for certain projects.
Proposals should fit into one of four categories which include:
Awareness, Behaviour and Culture
Resilient by Design
Secure Digital Foundations
Cyber Vulnerability Fixes
This competition is part of a wider initiative by the Cyber Resilience Programme that engages industry, academia, partners and allies to build military capabilities with inherent resilience.
According to DASA, the risk of cyber attack is one of the highest threats managed by the Defence Board. Cyber attacks are becoming more sophisticated and could have a higher impact in military situations in the future, it said.
The UK government recently announced it is encouraging schools to sign up for free resources to boost cyber skills and inspire young people to enter the cyber industry.
The move comes after the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) released figures demonstrating that around half of businesses in the UK are struggling to fill cyber security roles.
