Microsoft rivals ChatGPT with new AI tool

Microsoft has announced the launch of Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI tool designed to help people write and edit, create PowerPoint presentations, and identify trends in Excel spreadsheets.

Copilot, which can also support workers by managing their Outlook inbox and providing summaries of Teams meetings, uses the same technology as popular AI chatbot ChatGPT.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has made waves since launching in November 2022, with the company claiming that it is the world’s most-advanced chatbot.

Google also recently announced the launch of a similar chatbot called Bard, which is based on the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) that it launched two years ago.

“Copilot combines the power of large language models with your data and apps to turn your words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet,” commented Jared Spataro, corporate vice president, modern work and business applications, Microsoft. “By grounding in your business content and context, Copilot delivers results that are relevant and actionable."

Spataro added that Copilot marks "a new era of computing that will fundamentally transform the way we work".
