Meta ‘temporarily allows violent speech’ against Putin and Russian soldiers

Meta – which owns social media giants Facebook and Instagram – has reportedly made an exception to its rules by allowing violent speech against Russian soldiers and Vladimir Putin.

However, according to a report by the BBC, the company said that it wouldn’t allow calls for violence against the citizens of Russia.

The report said that comments such as “death to the Russian invaders” will be temporarily allowed on Meta’s platforms.

In a statement sent to the BBC, a Meta spokesperson said: "In light of the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, we made a temporary exception for those affected by the war, to express violent sentiments toward invading armed forces.”

“We demand that 🇺🇸 authorities stop the extremist activities of @Meta, take measures to bring the perpetrators to justice. Users of #Facebook & #Instagram did not give the owners of these platforms the right to determine the criteria of truth and pit nations against each other,” wrote the Russian Embassy, USA, in a Tweet.
