A latest round of job cuts at Meta has reportedly left staff demoralised and questioning their future at the Facebook company.
Around 4,0000 employees have been impacted by this round of cuts, mostly in tech teams. They come a month after Meta announced a second round of mass layoffs which will impact a total of 10,000 employees, with this being one portion of those cuts.
But while the cuts were expected under chief executive Mark Zuckerberg’s plans to make this a “year of efficiency,” Reuters has seen communications posted on an internal company forum which indicate low morale at the company.
One employee in particular wrote that the mass layoffs had “shattered the morale and confidence in leadership of many high performers,” and questioned “Why should we stay at Meta?”
Zuckerberg in 2022 urged employees to work with more “intensity” to meet ongoing business challenges, but staff are evidently feeling disgruntled that their effort has been met with this response from the company.
Meta laid off 11,000 workers last November, with the chief exec at the time saying that the company would become a "leaner org" able to "execute its highest priorities fastest." When the dust is settled, Meta will have let go of 21,000 staff in less than a year.
