Car manufacturer Hyundai has announced plans to launch an in-car payment system which will let customers pay for items via vehicle touchscreens.
Hyundai says that the car-based payments will be kept secure using tokenization, which replaces card details with a unique digital identifier to keep the data from being compromised.
It added that customers can access the payment service via Hyundai Bluelink, a connected car services app which enables drivers to view, book and retrieve past parking sessions for future journeys.
The company said that Hyundai Pay will be available in the US across its Hyundai Kona models this autumn.
The service will be expanded to an additional nine Hyundai car lines via model year changes or over-the-air updates.
The car maker has also partnered with Parkopedia – a service that helps drivers find the closest parking to their destination –to enable drivers in the US to locate, reserve and pay for parking at 6,000 locations using Hyundai Pay.
Hyundai said it will expand the payment service to other scenarios that drivers encounter.
