Hundreds of staff cut at AWS

Amazon’s cloud business, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has announced cuts to several hundred roles.

The company on Wednesday said that its sales, marketing and global services division and its physical stores technology team would be impacted by the cuts.

A spokesperson for AWS said: “These decisions are difficult but necessary as we continue to invest, hire and optimise resources to deliver innovation for our customers.”

The news was first reported by The Information, which said that the shakeup at the sales, marketing and global services division, which is made up of around 60,000 staff, is part of a broad reorganisation of the unit under chief sales officer Matt Garman.

These are the latest cuts at Amazon, which has recently reduced its headcount by hundreds across units ranging from streaming service Prime Video to its healthcare business.
