Google employees ‘could receive pay cut’ for remote work

Google employees could receive a pay cut if they choose to remote work permanently according to sources reported by Reuters.

The search giant offers employees an online tool to show them how their pay would be impacted if they choose to re-locate.

Employees who work in the same office could be paid differing amounts if they choose to work remotely according to the results of the online tool seen by Reuters.

The news comes after Google announced earlier this week that it approved 85 per cent of employee requests to work remotely or relocate once its offices are fully re-opened.

Support for remote working options remains generally high among workers in the UK; most - 71 per cent - want flexible working options to continue post-pandemic according to research from Microsoft released in April.

"Our compensation packages have always been determined by location, and we always pay at the top of the local market based on where an employee works from," said a Google spokesperson.
