Ethics group to guide on Home Office biometrics handling

The commission for the Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group (BFEG) has been renewed by the government.

The group will continue to provide independent advice to Home Office ministers on ethical issues related to biometrics, forensics, and data-driven projects.

The 2021 / 2022 commission the BFEG has been asked to provide advice on the Home Office biometrics programme and Home Office projects using advanced data processing techniques and/or large and complex data sets.

The group will also guide on policy relating to the collection, use, retention, and deletion of biometrics and digital forensics material.

As well as this, the BFEG will look at policy relating to the digitisation of services in the border, immigration, and citizenship system

The BFEG will also continue to support the Forensic Information Database Strategy Board and may also identify projects for self-commission and provide advice to the Forensic Science Regulator and other relevant stakeholders.
