Creator of McAfee found dead in Spanish prison

John McAfee, the creator of computer security software McAfee, has reportedly been found dead in a prison cell in Barcelona.

The news comes just hours after a Spanish court ruled that the anti-virus entrepreneur should be extradited to the US to face tax evasion charges.

According to the BBC, the Catalan justice department said that medics tried to resuscitate McAfee, who was 75 when he died.

The department also claimed that “everything indicates” the software pioneer took his own life.
McAfee founded his software business in 1987, running it until 1994.

The company was sold to technology giant intel for around £4.7 billion.

John McAfee was arrested in Spain last October after allegedly failing to file tax returns over a four-year period.

The US justice department accused McAfee of evading tax liability by routing his income to bank and cryptocurrency exchange accounts in the name of nominees, said the broadcaster.

It is also alleged that he had concealed assets, including a yacht and property.
