Chipmaker Nvidia Corp launches new system for autonomous driving

Chip manufacturer Nvidia Corp has launched a new computing platform called DRIVE Thor, designed to centralise the processes involved in autonomous and assisted driving.

The new system was unveiled by Nvidia’s chief executive and founder Jensen Huang during a keynote speech at a company conference.

The superchip will be able to replace several existing chips and cables in cars and bring down the overall cost of the system, said the company.

Nvidia claims that the software, including functions such as parking and entertainment, will make processes faster and more efficient

DRIVE Thor succeeds NVIDIA DRIVE in the company’s product line up. It is built on scalable architecture, so developers can port their past software development to the latest platform.

The news follows the company’s launch of its ‘omniverse’ features, designed to make it easier for gaming developers to share assets, sort asset libraries, collaborate, and roll-out AI to animate characters’ facial expressions.
